　　China has the richest temperate flora on the earth and there are 31,362 speices of vascular plants in China classified in 3,329 genera and 312 familes, as documented in a recently completed project, Flora of China (FOC). The Flora of China represents 8-12% of the world diversity of vascular plants and thus completion of the Flora of China project, is a great contribution to the World Flora Online project. How was the Flora of China project conducted? What are the characteristics of Flora of China? What are the patterns of plants of China at familial level and at generic level? Why should the new version of Flora of China be the standard version of plants of China? What is the influence of the completion of the Flora of China on all aspects of botanical and biological science in China and in the world?
